Week 24 - Yet Another Nursery Update...
Before I get to the nursery, I have to say: Wow. I can't believe it. Kristen went a WHOLE WEEK without shopping for baby stuff! That's a first. Yep, we're talking about the one who went shopping and bought an outfit for the baby BEFORE we even found out we conceived. Okay, it's not that bad, but we have been tearing though the baby stores virtually every weekend since July.
ANYWAY, the nursery is now a little less bare. Kristen and I took the time during the week to put the crib together. The parts were waaaay over packed with almost every individual piece wrapped in plastic. After some assembly required, we decorated it with the crib bedding purchased last week. Looks cute! We also purchased an inexpensive curtain rod this week and installed it over the window with the Disney butterfly/ bumblebee curtain sheers. The nursery is really coming together. =)
As for Kristen, she's doing well with only a slightly bigger tummy considering she's 5 1/2 months along and she's only 7 lbs over her lowest weight since she tested positive. She barely shows! It's kinda funny too. Kristen is complaining that most of her patients can't tell that she's pregnant. She even had one patient who agreed that she didn't look the part, but suspected that she was pregnant only because of the way Kristen was walking (can you say waddling?).
Although Baby Chen reduced her kicking over the last few weeks she picked it right back up again this week. I even saw K's tummy move for the first time! Reality is starting to catch up to me. Man, we're really going to be parents, aren't we? =)

Week 23 - Did you REALLY think it would be any other color?
As mentioned in our previous post, Kristen and I readied the nursery during the week for our paint job, cleaning out everything and prepping the room with lots of tape, paper, and a room-sized plastic sheet. Surprisingly, painting took no more than a couple hours Saturday morning with both of us on brush and roller duty. I managed the higher elevations with a step ladder while K painted below. We were pretty lucky in the end. Even though the paint job only required one coat of premium Flat Enamel Behr paint, we finished with no more than a few ounces of paint left in the can. *WHEW* As for the results? Wow! A nice pastel purple (lavender). A little brighter than we had originallyplanned, but we are happy with the results. A nice paint job really makes a big difference for the nursery! I'll post some pictures later.
As for purchases, we made some serious progress over the last week. We purchased a lot of the items in the Daisy set by Waverly, including the quilt, crib bumpers, crib ruffle, and sheets. We also completed the nursery furniture by ordering the Del Mar combo unit (also known as a combination dresser and changing table) by Rumble Tuff. Should be here in 4-6 weeks.
You probably think we're crazy, but by the beginning of November (a good two months before our baby girl is due), the whole nursery could be complete with its full compliment of furniture, bedding, and decor. It's actually not that crazy once you consider that between now and the due date we have some major events/holidays - our 2nd Wedding Anniversary, Thanksgiving, Kristen's 30th Birthday, Christmas, New Years - and some major shopping that goes along with it! We really need to have everything done now!

Week 22 - You mean I FINALLY get to see my doctor now?
Mom finally got to see her doctor today - first time since getting pregnant. (It's just SO great to belong to an HMO!!!) We went to the brand new Elk Grove Kaiser office that just opened today. Very, very nice building, and everything was new, of course. All new technology, too. Nortel VOIP phones and new Dell computers with flat panel monitors were all over the place. Even the exam rooms all had flat panel PC's! Cool. But I digress...
We got to see Kristen's regular OB/GYN, Dr. Jang, who was very patient and answered all of our questions. It's nice to finally see the doctor, even if we will only be seeing her every other visit from here on out. Nevertheless, Kristen got a clean bill of health out of the appointment. No problems from all the blood work and ultrasound measurements done previously. No signs of high blood pressure or diabetes. Plus only a 5 1/2 pound weight gain thus far. And Kristen even got the okay to use her Flonase! Yay!
Our weekend was pretty busy as well. We've been checking out Home Depot's paint section for the past few weeks to figure out what color the nursery will be. After much debate and checking out different paint swatches we settled on Glidden's Purple Foxglove color (card BL55 for those who must know). We made all the purchases to do a paint job ourselves, and should be ready to start the work next week. The rest of the weekend was dedicated to cleaning out the room - trust me, we needed all the time. =)
Other than that, we did some shopping in Roseville and spent a good chunk of plastic at Old Navy for maternity shirts. Kristen is really starting to bulge at the belly and she's even feeling more comfortable in maternity clothes than regular clothes! We also stopped by Babies R Us and found a baby bedding set that we actually liked. We might even get it soon. =)

Week 21 - Feel her wiggle, let her jiggle...
Okay, maybe she doesn't "jiggle." But both Mom and Dad felt Baby Chen kick pretty hard a few times last Friday just before going to bed. Wow! It was so cool. Dad was just talking to Baby and had his hand on Mom's tummy when all of a sudden he felt a big movement. Whoa! Dad was really surprised and startled and saw Mom staring at him.
We've both felt her kicking the next few days since and now Mom gets worried when Baby doesn't kick enough!
Side note: Mom is starting to wear her maternity clothes now, but they still don't fit quite right. At Auntie Dot's BBQ, everyone remarked how small Mom's belly was for being five months pregnent.
