Sleeping tiger, sitting dragon...
Yesterday, we saw Kaitlyn cross yet another major milestone. She sat up all by herself for over a minute! Thanks to a quick mind, fast hands, and wonderful MiniDV technology, we even got it on film. =) Our Baby k is really growing up fast. We've been wondering for the longest time when she'd actually start sitting on her own. But now that she's hit yet another plateau, we wish she wouldn't grow so quickly. I'll post a picture or two once we get them downloaded to the PC.
She's actually right about where she should be, especially compared to all the other babies on the www.babycenter.com January 2004 discussion boards. Not a slow learner, but definitely not a genius either. She sleeps through the night, but still wakes up in the middle of the night a few times a week. She's teething (w/lots of drooling), and you can see little bumps in her lower gums where her first teeth should be coming out. She's even taken much more interest in what we hold, eat, and drink to the point where she wants in on the action, too. Kaitlyn's six month check up is in a few weeks, and we'll start her on real food (okay, rice cereal) afterwards. We even think she's ready for a sippy cup.
And lastly, a story from Kristen: Baby k actually wanted to play with the camera the other day. She got her chance to hold the camera which inevitably wandered towards her mouth. When Kristen tried to take it away from her, Kaitlyn started crying and would only stop if the camera was returned to her mouth! Wha-huh? She's already learning to manipulate us??? Wonderful...

A few more pictures...
Kaitlyn and all her cousins!
A runny nose...
*SIGH*
Looks like Kaitlyn may have her first cold today. She's been sniffling, sneezing, and donning a runny nose all day. Don't know what happened, but she has a slight fever nonetheless. Kristen blames me, of course, when I allowed Kaitlyn to hang with me and Chase outside while it was a little breezy yesterday for about 10 minutes after dinner. That, or it's not putting her socks back on at 2am in the morning when she woke the house up and I had to put her back to sleep. Either way, I'm in the doghouse. =( Good news is that Kaitlyn doesn't seem to mind a bit, and really hasn't made much of a fuss.
On a lighter note, the past week has really made us realize that Kaitlyn is just growing too fast. We finally put her back in her swing today (she hadn't liked it after about the second month of use). The darn thing didn't seem to swing for the longest time because she was so heavy now! Baby k is also starting to enjoy her tummy time, all while trying to get up on her knees to crawl. Doing this she's managed to scoot backwards about a foot on several occasions. She's even starting to sit with only a little help as she prefers this position over most others. Time is whizzing by and Kaitlyn isn't getting any younger. Gotta cherish the moments now. =)
If I haven't mentioned it before, Chase never really cared that a new baby came into his domain -- definitely a good thing for our sanity. He's really good about not playing with Kaitlyn's toys and not whining with jealousy. This has changed a bit over the last month or so. We recently made the interesting mistake and allowed Chase to clean up after Kaitlyn when she spits up on the carpet. Since that first moment he realized there was a prize if he hung around Kaitlyn long enough. Chase now uses his keen sense of hearing to monitor Kaitlyn for THE BURP. Which in his mind may indicate A SNACK. Yes, that's right, our own Chase has become the automatic wet vac. Better than any real wet vacuum. The funny part of it all is that K and I think he does a better job cleaning up than if we had to do it ourselves. And so our new spit-up monitor/wet-vac will stay. Maybe we'll even claim that we trained him to do that... =)

It's on DVD already???
Just a thought for the day... Kristen and I haven't seen a movie, in the theater or on DVD since last year. The last movie we saw was The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King on December 31, 2003 -- the day before we found out K would need to deliver. It's not that we can't, it's just that there isn't any time to watch anymore... It seems like we always needing to buy something, go somewhere, visit someone, and well, like they say, priorities change.
Hopefully we'll be able to watch a summer blockbuster in the coming months. I don't think I can stay away from all the movie hype w/o seeing at least one on the big screen... hey, grandparents are there for a reason, right? =)

Kaitlyn turns five months old!
Well, it's been quite a while since I've posted anything. Thanks to Hello, I'm finally able to post pictures directly to the web site! Anyway, enjoy the picture below. It's the first time Kaitlyn has actually smiled for The Picture People at the mall!
Little k is very healthy but not very little anymore. She's still trending at around the 75th percentile and looks like she's about 7 months old. =) Kaitlyn is fitting 6-9 month clothes without a problem and weighs in at about 16 lbs.
As for major milestones, Kaitlyn is starting to do all the things a 5-month old should do. Just today she decided to roll over all by herself about a dozen times. Unfortunately, Mom and Dad missed the first half dozen or so as they were busy eating, reading, or watching Game 2 of the Lakers-Pistons finals. Kaitlyn hasn't figured out how to laugh still, and does these little squeaking or muted laughs instead. She's only laughed twice so far and we were lucky enough to get it on video the second time while she was taking a bath. The last big milestone Kaitlyn hit was reaching and playing with her feet. She LOVES to put all of her toes in her mouth, but usually looses a grip on them and winds up sucking her thumb instead. =)
Well, that's enough of a post this time around. Maybe I'll start posting a little more frequently. =) Again, enjoy her latest picture below!
