Who needs cable?

A couple weeks have passed and Kaitlyn continues to provide us great entertainment value. Kaitlyn has officially sat without falling over, by herself, all alone, on the carpet for over 50 minutes straight. She's starting to pick things up, including all of her rattles, gym toys, and Peek-a-Blocks, although everything still goes straight into her mouth.

Speaking of which, her first teeth are starting to poke out of her lower gums and now has a fairly sharp bite.  Last night Kaitlyn gave us a little bit of a scare.  She spit up once again, which is nothing new to us, but this time some of her spit up had a little bit of a reddish brown coloration to it.   Of course, Kristen and I panicked for a couple minutes when we first saw that. We actually were on hold with the Kaiser advice nurse before deciding that it probably was from teething. =)  Oh what things first time parents panic over. =)

With Kaitlyn's teething, her sleep schedule at night continues to be erratic, with some nights having great uninterrupted sleep, and others not so restful. Just Thursday night, baby k decided to go to bed a little later than usual, wake up at 2am, and wake up at 5am, all with K and I having to get back up by 6am for leaving the house by 6:45. Needless to say, Friday was a bit trying for Kristen.

On the brighter side, we think Kaitlyn's stranger anxiety peaked at a pretty chaotic and sensory-overloaded Fourth of July, and has started to melt away since. The Fourth was probably too much for Kaitlyn with all the new sounds, loud noises, and different faces all trying to compete for time with her. Since then we've had no problems when going to the doctor, Picture People, Kiddie Kandid, the mall, a couple restaurants with friends, visits with neighbors, and even to her Uncle Steve's house, who specifically has been torturing our poor baby just by sitting next to her at times. Well, at least things are getting better now. Let's hope it continues...

Kaitlyn also had her six-month checkup and vaccine shots last week. Amazingly, she's still trending at the 75th percentile in both weight  and head circumference and has now increased to a whopping 90th percentile in height (previously 75th percentile). That translates to 17 lbs, 11 oz and a length of 28".  We may just have a WNBA star afterall!  The vaccine shots went OK with a bit of crying (and a very quick recovery from an expected slight fever within a couple days). We got all our questions answered about feeding baby k solid food, so we're going to start her on rice cereal within the next few weeks.  Should be fun!

Overall, Kaitlyn is still a very happy baby, with little for Kristen and I to complain about. We think she's actually quite cute, even after you factor in the parent bias (No really, she IS cute. Really.). We watch all these other parents with 2-4 year-old kids and wonder how we're ever going to discipline such a cutie of our own. Well, I guess that's why you get a few years of experience (i.e. trial and error) before you get to that age.
