*DA* Speedy Turtle (or more appropriately: the 10 month update)
Where has all the time gone??? Can you believe our little baby k is already 10 months old? Kaitlyn has been growing up so fast and keeping us very busy…hence the lack of updates in the past two months (well, that’s my excuse this time). Anyway, so much has changed …where to start?
First off Kaitlyn is still growing like a weed. Our not so little girl is still trending toward being a future WNBA star. She is just shy of 30 inches which puts her in the 95th percentile for height. Since starting to crawl and cruise however her weight has dropped a little from 75th percentile to 50th percentile but that still puts her at a whopping 20+ pounds. Try lugging that around all day!
Kaitlyn now sports four teeth (two on top and two on the bottom) with four more on the way. So far we have been very lucky with Kaitlyn when it comes to eating. Other than refusing her cereal if you don’t add a tablespoon of juice to it she pretty much has eaten all of the baby food that we have given her. She’s tried all the baby fruits, vegetables, and meats and is now starting to learn how to eat table food. So far her favorites are bread, banana, tofu, and cheerios. Watch out though cuz if she doesn’t like the texture of something she’ll gag and out it comes along with whatever else happened to be in her stomach at the time. Not the greatest experience especially when you are in a restaurant which has happened by the way.
As mentioned above baby k is very mobile now. So far she has mastered crawling, pulling up to stand, cruising (walking along furniture) and just yesterday she managed to walk across the living room pushing an empty box. It probably won’t be very long before she gains enough courage to let go and just take off walking/running. We’re hoping she takes her time on that one though.
With mobility comes a lot more work for mom and dad. Looking back we realize how easy we had it when Kaitlyn just sat happily on the floor playing with her toys. Now she’s into EVERYTHING! Kaitlyn is turning out to be a very mischievous little girl. We can’t take our eyes off her for one second because if we do without fail she’s up to no good. Her favorite things to do recently are emptying out the bookcase one book at a time, clearing off the coffee/end tables, playing with the electronics, and grabbing anything and everything she can get her little hands on especially paper products. The funny thing is that she knows she’s not suppose to be doing certain things and she will turn around to see if you are looking, flash you her impish grin along with that twinkle in her eye, and crawl as fast as she can to her next target. That’s our little rascal.
Kaitlyn’s personality is definitely emerging. In addition to being mischievous she is very strong willed with a definite temper. If you do something she doesn’t like or you don’t do what she wants fast enough she will be sure to make it known. Screaming/crying fits with eyes tightly shut, back arching, and legs flailing are not uncommon. To think these tantrums are suppose to get even worse during the terrible two’s? What have we got ourselves in to?
Despite those meltdowns which we can do without Kailtyn has brightened our lives more than we could have ever imagined. Not a day goes by that we don’t say to each other “Isn’t she CUTE!” Aren’t those parental goggles just wonderful? =) Kaitlyn has learned a lot of new things lately and is much more interactive. Her vocabulary now includes mama, dada, mum mum (food), and wow wow (dog) along with a bunch of babble. She knows how to wave hello and goodbye. She’s finally giving out hugs but you have to cherish every moment of them because after about 5 seconds max she’s on to bigger and better things. She’s graduated from eating her books to actually sitting and listening to them and will even turn the pages when asked. She even knows how to undress herself already. What a little genius. Ok, to be honest she just loves to take her socks off and leave them everywhere but hey we got look on the positive side, right?
For those of you who remember the days of Kaitlyn crying every time someone tried to look at her those days have finally passed. It seems like Kaitlyn has moved past the stranger anxiety and separation anxiety for now. Unlike chase who takes about 5-10 minutes to calm down after meeting someone Kaitlyn takes about 5-10 minutes to warm up (she’ll just sit and stare and take everything in but won’t cry). After warming up however Kaitlyn will pretty much go to everyone now.
Okay, enough bragging for now. Hopefully we will post again before Kaitlyn turns 1 but with all the holidays coming up there’s no promises.
Hope all is well with everyone. Enjoy the pictures we posted yesterday.
